Edith Hilton earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University, Master of Science (MS) in Rehabilitation Nursing from St. Xavier University,Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in Neuroscience Nursing and Educator in Nursing, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Southern Mississippi in Higher Education Administration and advanced practice certificates in nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nursing from St. Xavier University and as Adult Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care from the University of Alabama , Birmingham.
She is licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in both areas. She authored 8 textbook chapters, 2 books and 14 articles appearing in referred journals. Her academic writing is focused on the care of those with chronic illness and disabilities. Her research and publications are focused on the same population. Her research has been presented nationally and internationally.
She obtained competitive federal grant funding for her research into stroke, spinal cord injury care, syringomyelia, geriatrics and global health conditions.
Her passions include caring for adults with complex chronic conditions and investigating phenomena related to vascular neurological conditions.
